Welcome to my first ever blog. Blogging is something I have shied away from in the past but I have been encouraged to give it a go!
I never knew that becoming a designer maker would encompass such a steep and seemingly never ending learning curve. First there are enjoyable bits, designing and sewing, making prototypes and developing the final product...I'd naively thought that was the main part of the job. I now find myself battling with book keeping, tax returns, photography, marketing, designing websites ( and keeping them updated ) , learning about instagram, twitter, hash tags, pinterest and now blogging, the list just keeps growing. BUT I love it! I'm frequently found in the evening, plugged into the PC listening to a webinar and frantically taking notes while my "to do " list grows arms and legs. I've discovered that there is a whole host of websites and organisations to learn from, often offering free advise and webinar sessions to support and help creative small businesses like mine. I hope in the coming months to take you on a journey from the seeds of sewing a new product to selling at events large and small across the country. I'm fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the world and to work with a fabric where the colours are inspired by the landscape. Harris Tweed and the Scottish landscape go hand in hand and I'm always awed how stunning the outcome can be when combining two different tweeds in the one product. This picture shows how perfectly the colours have been copied from Mother nature. |
